What Makes a Successful Pizza Slogan?

As of 2020, there are around 78,000 Pizza Restaurants in the United States. Over half of the restaurants are independent restaurants, while the remaining percent are chain restaurants. Chain Pizza restaurants generated around 27.61 billion US dollars in sales from 2012 to 2020.   

So, what makes chain restaurants so successful? Everyone recognizes them. One of their marketing strategies is slogans. Slogans capture the attention of their target audience while representing the product. The top leading pizza restaurant chains, Pizza Hut and Dominios have a long history of updating and perfecting their slogans and over the years this has contributed to their success.

Pizza Hut first opened in 1958 and later produced its first commercial with the slogan “Putt, Putt to the Pizza Hut”. The ad was successful because it rhymed and was easily remembered. Slogans that get stuck in consumers’ heads contribute to the restaurant’s success in becoming one of the leading chain restaurants. Now we know their slogan as “No One Out Pizzas the Hut” which continues to strengthen brand awareness by including the restaurant name. However, they are not the only ones who have mastered this. 


Dominos is a close runner-up in the pizza restaurant ranking. Started in 1960, Dominos became successful by its convenient ordering and fast delivery. In 2007, Dominos’ slogan “You Got 30 Minutes” advertises the promise customers would get their food in half an hour. Eventually, they ended up not sticking to the actual rule after several complications but kept the slogan to keep the image of fast delivery. Most importantly, one of their most highly reviewed slogans has been “Get the door. It’s Dominos.” This is because the slogan covers all basic marketing rules. It’s attention-grabbing and speaks directly to the customer. It maintains the original brand by keeping that sense of urgency. Like Pizza Hut’s current model, it helps the restaurant stick better in the consumers’ head by mention their name.

It’s no secret that Pizza Hut and Dominos dominate American pie consumption. They will continue to compete with each other by best trying to market their products.
