With all due respect to readers of Time and Newsweek, here’s some ACTUAL news to read. The website ThinkGeek.com just received a cease-and-desist warning from the pork industry for parodying their slogan “the other white meat.” ThinkGeek’s parody revolves around a display for “Canned Unicorn Meat” that features spam-like packaging. Canned unicorn was proclaimed “the new white meat.”
Originally an April Fool’s joke, Canned Unicorn Meat was also touted as an “excellent source of sparkles.” Ceci Snyder, vice president of marketing for the National Pork Board took the bold step of acknowledging that unicorns don’t actually exist but added, “If you don’t respond, you are opening your trademark up to challenges.” (From whom? Elves and tooth fairies?)
Looks like Canned Unicorn Meat might need to open a contest on Slogan Slingers. You know where to find us ThinkGeek.com!
